The iPad screen was another negative. The car I was looking at was in the mid $120s and the interior just didn’t compete at that price point.

That was one of the worst reviews by Jonny Smith I've seen in awhile. Phoned it in and lost an SD card in the desert. The event was in November and they finally got around to posting. I honestly think they lost some of the footage and had to scramble to make something watchable. Plugs it into the 150kW charger, you think he's going to say something intelligent, cuts to something else. He knows electric cars, usually has something insightful to say, not this time. But oh, the Jaguar…

The following is directly from the press pack he didn't read:
Aluminum and steel: hybrid construction body
As is typical of the brand, the body of the Audi e-tron is a hybrid construction of aluminum and steel. If the housing of the high-voltage battery is included, aluminum comprises
40 percent of the body. The remaining 60 percent breaks down into 17 percent hot-shaped steel and 43 percent cold-shaped steel. The Audi e-tron has an unladen weight of 2,490 kilograms (5,489.5 lb), which is typical for an electric SUV.
This is from a body shop specialist industry website:
The doors, hood and tailgate are also aluminum, according to Audi. The passenger cage itself “features components made from heat-formed ultra-high-strength steel,” according to Audi.

All of these trips can be made without ever stopping; none of these trips are possible non-stop in an electric car. When they were younger, out-of-town weekend hockey games could not have been possible.

So, while I agree that handling, trunk, etc are very important - no matter how fancy the features, if the car is unable to make routine trips like above, range is the single factor that rules the car out.
Having a TDI I feel the same way, a real luxury to not have to think about stopping for fuel until after 550 miles. An EV is not everybody's cup of tea. Many of our trips are <100 miles and we thinking on using the e-tron for all but the very long trips - though perhaps with some DC chargers along the highway we might alternate.

Thanks for the info on the aluminum usage, LavaGrau_A3. I was thinking the same thing about both the content and the timing of that video. Fully charged is usually good but I saw so many better videos from random bloggers.

Most everyone is doing the swing panels now in Aluminum, that makes sense... E-Tron is heavy because Audi was so conservative in the battery crash structure (4-500 extra pounds), and the roof structure (80 extra pounds). They will use this to learn, and the next model will not be as conservative.

Are you guys watching NIO on 60 minutes tonight?

The piece on Nio was very interesting. The Chinese government is certainly supporting the industry.

The most interesting thing that stood out to me from that 60 minutes story was the data being collected about ALL EV's. Privacy concerns aside, that is really interesting data on battery level and trip locations that would be helpful in determining charging infrastructure location and size.
