When I am at the bottom of the reserve your car screen before I submit a request, it shows some dealer in another US state than I'm in. When you go further in the process does it give you the opportunity to change the dealership? Don't want to drive a couple thousand miles to get to the dealership it lists.

And speaking of which, should I be contacting my local dealer to start talking to them about this purchase? Any value in that?

Yes. There is value in contacting local dealerships within a radius of where you are (100mi for example). They may have existing vehicles unspoken for that you could take over the reservation for, or offer a discount, as you can choose any dealer you wish.

Competition between dealerships selling a commodity only works in your favour.
