What are these two leads?

Found these two wires that were apparently attached to the rear removable storage bin next to the spare tire on US-spec cars. No idea what they're there for but they look to be wires and they must have some purpose. Any ideas?

mine rest loosely through that big hole.
my assumption is some sort of sensor or antenna

I asked my dealer about them and they said the wires are for detecting moisture in that area. Perhaps a flood detector?
