Default Climate Control Timer Update

A recent app update (Nov 2022) changed the remote climate options. There is now a choice between Quick start and Timer start. Quick start is the same as it ever was. Timer start is new and allows you to set two climate control timers timers.

The timer appears to work whether the car is plugged in, charging, or on a charging timer. It allows you to specify glass heating and seat comfort. Next to the timer it says "Specify the point in time at which your vehicle should have reached the default temperature."

This has always been a feature in the app, previously there were several ways to access climate control, one was a quick start button that gave you a slide bar for temperature and the start button, or you could go to the "climate control" setting, which is the portion of the app you're describing (or you could access it through all functions > climate control). The update in the app looks like it just got rid of the quick start button (which is fine), I'm guessing you may have just been inadvertently overlooking the other climate control options due to the prevalence the quick start button used to have.

Was the cabin preconditioning timer selection available @Brock Tune I am with @mtberman in that the functionality of being able to set a cabin timer independent of charging status and the car being plugged in, appears to be new to me. There is always a chance I have simply missed this in the past, but this "appears" new to me now. This may be because I have an early '19.

I have an early 2019 too (Edition One), so if it was available to me I assume it was available to all, and as the climate timer setting, as well as the glass heating and seat comfort settings, were all something I was using semi-regularly I can say with confidence its always been in there for me.

I do think I was mistaken before though, I believe the difference in the apps is in the old version, the climate control button on the main screen was the quick start only option (with the temperature bar on a black screen), with the full settings of climate control available (timer, glass, seat comfort) if you went to All functions > climate control. The update looks to have removed the quick start option and made the full feature set available on the main screen button, but the settings themselves are exactly the same in the update as they were previous, just the path for accessing them has changed.

This is not related to the charging timer, or “preconditioning”, which has always included a setting for the cabin temp to be reached at a certain time after charging.

Instead of a start option and some settings, the climate now two tabs. aa start option and a timer option. It’s a separate timer in the app that applies to the climate control only. It operates almost identically to the charging timer but it appears to only have 2 timers that can be set. It allows you to set a temp at your departure time regardless of where you are.

I think it’s new. It appears to exist only within the app. There’s no in-car version of this feature.

I suppose there's no reason for me to continue belaboring this discussion, as if you're just discovering it and appreciate it, that's great. BUT... I'm familiar with what we are discussing and I have always had it in my app, and it definitely exists in the MMI as well. I often drive out to the state park for a jog/hike and use the timer feature to schedule my cabin being conditioned when I'm planning on being back, and have used the app often in the past to set it on days I may have forgotten or adjust the schedule that I already set on days I'm out longer than expected.

For reference you can find it in the MMI by hitting the 3 dots on the lower screen and then the thermostat symbol in the upper right on the upper screen.

Following on this thread - I purchased the 2022 etron last January, and all winter the timer control worked great every morning. Now, it is heating the cabin, but not the seats. The app has all the seats checked, and the menu in the car also shows that the seats will heat. However, when I get in the car, the heater is on, but the seats are definitely not warming. Has anyone else had this problem?

I wonder if you are talking about the climate preconditioning that accompanies with the charging timer? Just to be clear, this thread is talking about the climate control timer solely, its a separate screen on the MMI and in the app from where you set the charging timer. The only reason I note this is because while the climate control timer settings let you choose temp/seat/glass etc, I believe enabling the cabin preconditioning that accompanies the charging timer simply uses your last in vehicle settings (so if your seat heater was off when you shut down the vehicle, it will be off when the charging timer starts the cabin preconditioning as well), so I'm wondering if that's possibly the issue?

And on a side note, after googling around it looks like in Europe at least, the remote pre-conditioning timer settings were an additional add on purchase. I'm used to thinking anything I see as an early 2019 owner everyone must have, but now I'm wondering if its something I got as part of the Edition One package and that's why I've always seen it and some of you other 2019 owners seem to have not seen it, if that's the case sorry to poo poo the thread with my confusion/mis-information!

Thanks! I tried my best with the terminology, so apologies if I got the words wrong. My issue is with the remote climate control, and/or the climate control timer. Both the app or the timer in the car turns on the heat when I tell it to, but the seat heaters do not turn on for some reason (They used to). I have been running them constantly for the last couple of weeks. Here is a picture of while the car is pre-heating but the seats are not heating. The second picture is after I hit Start and the seats begin to heat, and the third picture is the settings in the car. I may have to call the dealer next, but that is a pain! I just had my 10k checkup - maybe that had something to do with it.
