Default Dim Headlights?

Has anyone noticed that their Digital Matrix LED headlights (US spec) have a very short range/are dim at night? It seems mine on the e-Tron are aimed too low. Any way to adjust them?

I have not noticed this. My previous car was an '05 Acura TL with HID headlights and the e-tron's are definitely brighter than my old TL's were. Then again it's possible they're dimmer than some modern cars. My wife has a '19 Subaru Crosstrek and it's got traditional halogen headlights that are about 1000x dimmer than the e-tron's.

Thanks Skaven81! I came from an XC90 Recharge, which has veey bright headlights. It seems the headlights on the e-Tron are pretty bright too, but somehow I noticed mine have a very sharp downward angle. When driving on the freeway, you can see the pattern of the cutoff of the headlights on the median divider; on my other cars, the cutoff is more or less parallel to the ground (i.e. pretty straight ahead), but on the e-Tron, you can see a downward angled triangle aimed at the ground. Do others notice this too?

Giving this thread a bump. Mine seem to be pointed really low, and would like to adjust them upward a bit. Wondering if any members here know how to adjust the aim of the e-Tron headlights. I've done this on other cars by turning adjustment screws.

The US-spec e-tron still has the matrix headlight system even though it's been nerfed into a simple "low/high beam" system via software due to US regulations. Since the whole point of matrix headlights is that they can project the light beam where it's supposed to go instead of depending on physical actuators and lenses/mirrors, I highly doubt that there is any sort of mechanical adjustment for the lights. It is almost certainly a software configuration to define how high up the low beams go. If I were you I would take the car into the dealership and have them look at it. There is likely a very specific calibration procedure they use when replacing defective or broken headlights, that they can perform on your car, to ensure they are at the correct OEM spec. If you're feeling adventurous, there may be settings accessible via the OBD-II port that adjust this -- see https://forum.obdeleven.com/thread/7...deleven-tweaks

Many thanks Skaven! I will look into these avenues. Booked the car to be checked out by dealership on Monday. OBDeleven seems like a very cool tool. Will look into that as well.

that's disappointing for a $3000 option!

I just bought a 2017 Q5 a few months ago and I think my headlights are crazy dim also. Mine are only bi xenon and no auto bright feature but I swear my halogens on my old car were better. I don’t know if I need to re aim mine or because the car has been in service for a while to swap out for new or brighter bulbs.

I don't have any problems with the lights on my '19 aimed low. And they're not dim though not quite as bright and light as well distributed as the wife's E-class Merc.

I really like the headlights on my 2019, nice and bright and well aimed both high and low beam.
