Default Drastic temporary decrease in range

My e-Tron showed a range of 110 miles as I left the office. Barely drove a mile and got warnings that the battery was low. The range had dropped to 24, and then went to less than 10 as I watched in panic! I pulled off to a side road, stopped but did not turn off the engine. A few seconds later, the range started increasing and went back up to over 100 miles as I sat there. Drove 13 miles to the house with no issues. Wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this?

Its a 2019 e-Tron Prestige with 1k miles on it.

Thanks.

Yes, I had this happen once about 2 months ago. It was the first cold morning that I had driven in so I put it down to that. I’m in the UK so probably not as cold as some of you in the US (it was probably around 1-2 Celsius). It hasn’t happened again even on similarly cold mornings.

Default In Shop[ Now

My is in the shop right now for this problem. I had a few charging errors and charging stopped early. Then I had 90% with 96 miles. I got the low range at 60 with 52% battery. Going to update and see what happens. The car has been with the dealer for 4 days. I will update

I had exactly the same thing somewhere in June 2019. Car was at the dealer to investigate for about a week, they then said that it was a known bug, and would be fixed in August. Had some updates installed in the fall, but in all fairness, I only had it once, never re-occured.

I wonder if a battery cell, (pack?) has failed?

Dropped the car off at the dealer, will let everyone know what they find, if anything at all.

Just heard from them with the comment "Looks like our Audi case we started for your car has been updated to say they would like some extensive driving and testing processes for your car. We may have it for a little while."

The waiting game starts...

Apologize for resurrecting an old thread, but something similar happened to me today. Had charged to 100% for a day trip to South Lake Tahoe from Sacramento and pulled out of the driveway with 204 miles of range. Had to pull over to fiddle with music half a mile away, and the range estimator (GoM) suddenly dropped to 165 miles. Car drove fine, so we kept going, and the GoM kept going down from 165. Stopped at a Starbucks 20 miles away, and when we got going again, I rebooted MMI. It initially showed 177 miles, then dropped to 142 within a minute or so. Wish I had thought to take pics of the charge meter, but because it was reading about 80%, off we went. Got to our destination with 70 miles of range, with the charge meter roughly 45%.

Pulled up to the local EvGO charger with 34% SoC and 55 miles. That was a little weird, because the cafe was just easy 5 miles from the charger; no traffic, no hills. At that point, total distance traveled was 108 miles. That charger only gave 18 minutes or so of charge at 45kW, and got up to 45%, so we went back on 50 and got to another EvGO charger at Strawberry. Charged for 30 minutes at 47.3kW and got to 80% SoC with GoM reading 175 miles. Heading downhill, the GoM kept fluctuating (thanks, regen!), and I rolled into the garage with 58% SoC and 158 miles of range.

Have only had the car for 7 weeks and 1400 miles. I understand the GoM is often inaccurate (after 5 Audi ICEs), but there's been a good concordance between SoC and GoM thus far during my ownership (commutes of 20-30 miles r/t). Reading through the forum, @Bohica1956 had a similar issue and was found to have a faulty battery control module. Have other folks had similar experiences, and was the final diagnosis similar? Looking forward to the group's collective insight. Thanks!

That’s not normal behavior and it probably indicates trouble with a battery module.

What you’re describing sounds somewhat similar to Bjorn’s EQC range test.

Thanks, @Tronification . That's what I was afraid of. Additional data points: Outbound trip was measured in the app as 125 miles, return was 205. There is no way the outbound was 125, as it is 103 miles door to door from home to destination, and the Starbucks detour was no more than 4. And returning the exact same way without the Starbucks stop is not anywhere near 205 miles. Definitely something squirrelly, and it looks like the odometer is affected as well. Will call for a service appointment in the morning.
