Default EA or my e-tron?

Hi Everyone,

The last two times I have charged at Electrify America, with my free charging, I get a communication error around 86% and it stops charging. I tried disconnecting the EA plug, turning the car off, on and off again, and even drove around the parking lot and came back to recorrect. No luck. My thought is maybe EA is limiting charging above 80% since I have free charging?

Thanks!

EA is expanding their 85% limit to more areas. Hyundai seems to be limiting their free charging to 80% where it essentially just slows to a crawl. But it does not give you a communication error

Yup, SoCal is the area where EA is expanding the 85% limit. You'll also get charged if you fail to move it quick enough. I'd expect this stuff to be posted at the chargers.

cut off @ 85% is understandable. However, it would be nice to get a notification of that, not a communication error and a red light at my charge port.

I'm in favor of chasing away locals sitting on a charger to 100% just because it's free juice. On the other hand, when I was roadtripping in my '21 etron ocassionally I needed to charge over 85% to have a generous buffer to arrive at the next charger. So perhaps a filter could be added to allow vehicles on an obvious road trip to take all juice they need.

Well, it seems that Audi/EA is moving more towards a free-charging limit to 80% SOC. If EA is following teslas lead, to go above 80% you would have to pay at a higher "congestion nuisance hog" rate. For "free-chargers" that would mean going through EA and paying by card or via your EA account.

Does anyone know if an Audi etron owner can still make use of Plug&Charge through EA after the free charging expires?

I'll find out on May 6th when my "2 year" free charging ends.

I'm not in CA and I got a disconnect delay fee for taking about 3 minutes to get out of the car and remove the charge cable on reaching my 80% limit that I leave as is for the recall. IIRC I think it was around $.50 for that short amount of time

Was that 3 minutes past the ten minute grace period, or are you saying 3 minutes after you finished charging? That would imply you had a 2-minute grace period and $0.50 per minute after that 2-minute grace period.

All of my text messages after I finish charging state: "Your charging session is complete. Please disconnect from the charger and move your vehicle to avoid idle fees of $0.40 per minute after a 10-minute grace period." This is Illinois. Perhaps each state is different? 2 minutes would be an incredibly short amount of time. Especially when the stupid EA charger abruptly stops (like has happened to me before).
