First Road Trip - Help with Audi Trip Planner
I don't even bother planning ahead anymore - chargers are plentiful on the east coast now. But I will occasionally hop into PLUGSHARE and read the check-ins to make sure which chargers actually work. When I pick a charger I'm going to, I'll hop in the app and make sure someone checked in there recently and it works.
Did I mention PLUGSHARE is the app you want to use?
I used ABRP back in the day and it was great back when there were very few chargers and I was all nervous. It's overly complicated. But now I just want to make sure the chargers I can see in google and EA etc, are actually WORKING. That's where plugshare comes in. Incidentally - thanks to any/all who use the checkin feature on it to help keep track of which chargers are out of service.
The only time I ever use the dash nav is if I'm close to running out of charge as it will adjust the GOM based on the rout (elevation / speed limits). That's handy on long trips or if I'm cutting it close.
Note: I'm in a '21 etron

I am have a Q6 etron 2025 and I am planning my first trip from Asheville to Cleveland Ohio . I just bought an adapter so I can use Tesla chargers
. Is there any advice which route to take 81/77 0r through Columbus Ohio ?? thanksI can't set departure SOC or target arrival SOC's.
But you are right, I never push it to where that actual state of charge matters anyway, and the rest of it just not that hard to plan on the fly anyway, and maybe more accurate, as situations change. And ABRP did seem to be missing a lot of chargers that I could see just driving by.
Thanks for the reminder.

Trips in the Pudget Sound region are no planning needed, plenty of chargers.
Trips to other places in the West can require charging to avoid issues. I use:
ABRP to get a good first plan, on the desktop.
PlugShare to look for problems, recent reports, and to checkout alternative locations, and to find hotels with charging.
Vender apps (Chargepoint, EA, EVgo, Blink, Tesla, etc) to verify details.
I use both the car's NAV and Google Maps for driving... Car's NAV if leg is a little less secure, and Google Maps for finding restaurants and such.
I've also tried AI: Google Maps and Claude have both found some information that was useful that I was able to verify with other sources. And about four times as many hallucinations. So crosscheck anything an AI tells you with the above sources.
I don't even plan anymore. I just jump in and drive. Without making any car modifications I can drive 180 miles with full HVAC and comfort suspension. I just look for any Ionna, Mercedes-Benz or EA between 150 and 200 miles from where I am and drive. If it is above 180 miles I know that I will have to hit econto drop the suspension. To find chargers I'll use Plug Share to just eyeball where the charger should be and put that address in my Audi NAV.
No more planning. No more research. Just drive. But I have regular long distance driving so I do this quite a bit.
