Range of Keyfob remote
I was wondering if anyone had noticed how short the range on the keyfob remote is. Seems that I can only get it to work within 2-3 car lengths, which means I can't autostart the AC/heaters from the remote. Also seem you have to be just about at the car to unlock. I guess I can accomplish the same thing from the MyAudi app; just more of a hassle in the winter to have to drag a phone out of an inside pocket to start the heater.

I know this may sound counter intuitive, but I think less range may be the better option to have. I cannot tell you how many times I have inadvertently unlocked, locked or triggered the car alarm because something in my pocket pressed up against one of the fob buttons. This has happened with my i3 while it was in the garage and I was inside the house.
If your goal is to precondition your cabin this will take some time (in any kind of weather when it will be important to you) and is best done from inside your office or house.

If you make the proper selection in the menus in the car, you can start the air when you unlock the car. The app is the more accurate/safer way to do this, because you can precondition without unlocking. I guess that's why I asked about the keyfob range originally - if I park far away from the door (gotta get some exercise, after all) and could unlock it from there, the car would be considerably cooler by the time I reach it. Unfortunately, the range is so short that I don't think it is worth starting the A/C when you unlock, because you'd get to the car so soon that it wouldn't have time to have really cooled anything down.
