Another car update... see the last pic for the source of my rage...
<a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/225326.phtml">customary link to backstory</a>
Bob, before I was going to use your method for filling the CV joint with grease, I decided to try one last time what the instructions said...

It worked!

Yar!
<img src="http://www.showyourmedia.com/files/1211602831.JPG">
All the old crap is out!

New axle is in...
<img src="http://www.showyourmedia.com/files/1211602878.JPG">
New control arm is in...
<img src="http://www.showyourmedia.com/files/1211602912.JPG">
So, everything looks good, right? WRONG!
<img src="http://www.showyourmedia.com/files/1211602923.JPG">
8+ hours into this, and the new ball joint boot has a tear in it. See the white goo seeping out on the right? I have no idea how it happened... the protective cap was on until the last moment. =/
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!
So, now I need to order another new control arm... I'm guessing I have no other options, correct? I can't somehow seal the tear, correct?

What brand is that control arm???....
So I know to get another brand when I do mine...
I had the same thing happen on my old BMW. The boots on those replacement ones often seem to suck as if you look at them funny they will tear.
I was selling the BMW, so I just installed it as is and figured it would be a year before it was serious enough to warrant replacement again.
As you can see, I'm a really nice guy. ;^)

Very helpful, thanks. Any idea how installation works? Seems like it's probably going to be complex.
I think I'm going to have to remove the control arm again, no?

ya you will have to drop it out but just that joint, then keep wieght on it, there are two clips you
remove which you can see in your pic and they come in the kit, or they used to. and then it just slides off IIRC, then push the new one on and clamp those clips after putting the grease in it.
I need to do my passenger side one soon.

BTDT.. oops! that was actually me on that link :)
Keep the control are as is but take the strut assembly out for more access. You need to use these to get the locking rings/clips out and in.
