On Thurs last week they turned around and said that it was fine
and didn't have to replace it.
But I would doubt they would have swapped a new one in just to test it and then put my old one back on?
I'm so pee'd that they hadn't even pulled the crank sprocket to check the key yet. I mean I clearly told the guy to check it last Tues - but he swore up and down how their mechanic's are the best in the business and they could tell that the key was fine.
I think I've received some dis-information because I got passed between two SA's while the first one was out for surgery last week. My SA is a nice guy but I don't think he is getting all the info from the shop to answer my (your) questions. I plan to drop by the shop on Thurs or Fri when they should have the sprocket and balancer off. The parts manager somewhat knows me by now so I am thinking of stopping by to talk to him first.
Luckilly I still have another car to drive.

I would want to be present when the crank pulley is removed.
Now that there are three parties, a substancial amount of money, and potential liability involved, I'd want to see that thing come apart and have someone explain exactly what they are doing/seeing when it is disassembled.

reading the thread below...i'm not sure why any disassembly is necessary at this point
just compare the timing marks on the cam sprocket, the crank pulley, and the flywheel on the back of the engine. if they don't match up, then you can start ripping stuff apart

They say that they are out of alignment
They still have not torn it down as they want to have parts in stock first. Current theory is that it is the bolt that holds the pulley on (isn't there also a key built into the pulley?).
