Default dash beep driving me crazy-long

Here is the deal....
The 2"x2" area that shows the "OK" symbol and radio status is not working or at least is not lit. On rare occasions, it will show my radio station etc..but I have not even seen this in a while.
For the past several weeks it has no lights and it beeps fairly often. Sometimes once a minute for maybe 5-8 minutes and then it will not beep again. I have shown a flashlight on the dash and I can see what looks like a bomb with an X thru it. The owners manual says this is a warning for headlight or tail light. However, both are fine. Hmmmmmmmmm.

To add to the sage, the other day I disconnected the battery an the "OK" sign showed on the dash for the first time in a long while, when I reconnected the battery and started car for the first time. After the first start, it is back to its old ways.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Default First step: replace the bulbs

You can get them at any audi dealer for around $5 each, or online for more like a buck each. There are two: one has a yellow cover and one has a red cover. You can probably transfer these bulb covers to the new lamps. One bulb is normally used when the headlights are on and the other when they are off.

Once the display is working again you can move on to fixing whatever is causing the alert. Obviously if it's a false bulb out reading it's not a critical issue. But other alerts (low brake fluid, low coolant, etc.) are more urgent...

Also, if you pull (or is it push?) the left hand button on the custer (the dimmer switch) the autocheck will go through a diagnostic procedure and show you all of the icons.

Default you did't understand. You can set sometimes accidently) a speed alarm - at any speed..

It goes off when you cross that speed (saw 35mph)

Does it not reset every time you turn off the car?
