Default HELP!!!!!!!!!! Bad alternator on the road, need advice NOW!!

Ok, I am making my road trip back from Hartford to Huntsville and the alternator on my car just quit. It is a 95.5 S-6, and I am a newbie to these. Is this alternator common to any other cars or is it specific?

Is there anyone in the DC area that might have one sitting on a shelf I could get for cheaper than buying a new one?

I have a tow truck on the way and just happened to pull off at a rest stop that has wi-fi... thank you Maryland for putting wi-fi here!

I am sitting at the Maryland welcome center on I-95 south just a wee bit north of Laruel, MD. If anyone can lend a hand with replacement my phone number is 512-971-8975... Scott

Are you sure the serpentine belt is still working?

Default I checked ETKA.The PN was 054 903 015K but that was superceded to 046 903 015F which is..

no longer available factory new but is available as 046 903 015FX (rebuilt). I did a cross check for other applications and nothing else came up (in ETKA).

All of these are 120A Bosch units.

Bummer. Hope it works out. Where is your seller? You may need to kick his/her ***.

Dammit, this is not what I needed on this trip!!

Already called the Autozones and pep boys, but knew they would not have it... this is BAD!!

If anyone has a lead on getting me this part in the next 24 hours, please call me at 512-971-8975!

Default Just in case I am wrong, here is what the actual symptoms were:

Battery light came on, I pulled over and kept the car running. Checked to see that the belt was still attached, and it was...

Pulled the neg. side of the battery and the car did not immediately die, it stumbled pretty bad but did not just stop. I ran around, jumped in and revved it up with my eye on the voltage guage. The guage popped up over 12 volts for about 5 seconds and then went right back down to nothing and then the car stumbled for a few more seconds... then it died. Is there anything else this could be??

Default Yikes! Not exactly the safest way to diagnose an alternator.

Sounds like the brushes are shot. Start with a new regulator.
