1993 Auto Transmission Woes
Hello all, long time lurker, first time posting. I love German engineering, but own mostly Fords and Dodges, all manual, with the exception of this wonderful 100.
I have a 1993 Audi 100S Automatic. The car was purchased 2 years ago with 204K. When I bought it the PO's mechanic had installed the tranny filter with no o-ring. So it was slipping, getting stuck in gear, all that good stuff. He thought it was dying, I took a chance and got it for a steal.
So 55k down the road, right at 259,000 it's starting to act up again. I've already got more use out of the car than I paid for, but I'm fairly attached to this thing now.
The car as it sits will rev and slide into 2nd and 3rd gear. But 4th is solid and shifts perfectly. All driving ranges engage smoothly and as quick as ever.
I did a service just cause I had an extra filter and some fluid laying around and the problem is still there. The old fluid was beautiful on the way out, not burnt or full of crud. The filter was fairly clean too. After the service, the problem persists.
I'm thinking maybe solenoids, mainly because 4th is still a perfect shift and I'm not finding chunks of clutches in the pan. I don't recall how many solenoids were in there as I didn't pay that much attention.
Can I find them to replace them around the internet? I can't find anything for it anywhere.
If this thing had a manual I'd love it even more. I guess I'll have to look into that option.
I will say I love these things. I've heard horrible things about maintenance difficulty and parts prices, but that was all bs. This thing is built better than any American car I've had the "pleasure" of toying with and most of the parts are decent priced.
My next move is a B5 S4 for some DD fun.
Any help is appreciated!

This forum is for C4 UrS-cars (1992-97), all of which in NAmerica were manual five speeds so getting a response here might be difficult. You will be better off posting your question (and background info) on the C4 100/A6 forum where automatic transmissions are the norm, not the exception:

Good luck.
