Default Trunk does not open

My trunk does not open. I hear the actuator lock and unlock but no open. Button pushes in but doesnt feel the same. Almost easier to push in. Is there an emergency way to open trunk from inside vehicle? Or am I stuck? Who could fix such a problem?

Thanx Art

Default Did you have someone try and lift it as you're pushing the button?

Sometimes when I push the button and try to lift it it won't open the first try. But if I go back and push it again, it usually works. Or if i have someone lifting the trunk as I'm pushing the button.

Default The trunk lock is weird.

This may be a silly suggestion. But have you put the key in and turned the lock cylinder 90 degrees, removed the key, and then tried to push it in? Only when the cylinder is in one specific position does it move the latch lever when pressed. Presumably the electric opener and pneumatic unlocker are disabled when the cylinder is rotated like this as a valet mode.

Thanxs I'll try that. My ignition key does not go in all the way in the trunk. Works in the doors no problem but not the trunk. Seems like something stops the key part way in.

Tried that right away. No workie. The key when put in the trunk does not turn at all. This I assume is not normal?

Default It sounds like your lock cylinder is messed up.

You could try squirting some graphite in there and really ramming in the key to try to get it to turn.

Failing that, you could carefully drill out the lock cylinder and try to manipulate the lever which opens the latch. That will be tricky but probably workable. Hopefully when drilled out you can just turn the lock with a screwdriver.

As I recall from looking at the lock mechanism, there is a long arm made of brass-colored rod about 3/16" thick which goes from a pivot on the lock cylinder to the latch in the center of the trunk. If you pull that the correct way (only done via the solenoid when the lock cylinder is in the non-valet position), the trunk will open. The tricky part will be getting to it.

It's possible that if you can get the cylinder to turn with a screwdriver (+/- drill) then you can use the electric opener to unlatch it.

I guess if I were me I'd go at it with the drill if the graphite + vigorous key action didn't work. You most likely have to replace the lock cylinder anyway.
