Default Hatch problems

So I’ve had my Q8 a couple weeks now. Today, a buddy was getting some things out of the trunk, instead of hitting the button, he reached up and attempted to close the hatch manually. I’m not sure how much force he used, but I was watching and it didn’t look excessive, he only used one hand. That said, both hatch struts basically folded in half and broke! I couldn’t believe it... We had to remove the struts and reposition them just to get the hatch to close so we could make it home.

I’ve done a bit of searching and can’t really find anyone that had a similar issue.. Any idea what might have happened? Like I said he reached up with one hand and pulled down with minimal force, he didn’t jerk it or hang his weight off it. I’ve closed the hatch manually with no issues. Seems like it’s either very delicate, or it got jammed up somehow. Either way it sucks because I doubt it’ll be covered under warranty.

I have had mine for a couple of years and found it to be a bundle of bugs . . . but your specific hatch problem hasn't happened YET! Someone on another thread said we are all BETA Testers On a more serious note, please let us know what you find the source of the problem to be and whether it gets covered under warranty. Also, on mine when I manually try to close the hatch, it starts to close by itself. Thanks.

I'm sorry that happened to you. You said you had the Q8 for only a couple of weeks. That should absolutely be covered under warranty. There is no reason that should be your fault unless you were hanging from it, which you stated your buddy was not. Please let us know how it gets rectified.

I've had trouble opening the hatch with foot motion. It's opened about 3 or 4 times since I bought the car back in September 2019. I took it to the closest dealer and I was told the service foreman opened it 3 times with his foot, but the service advisor and tech who worked on the car couldn't get the hatch to open. I went to a different dealer and the service foreman there could not consistently get the hatch to open. I have taken it back to them so they can repair it. I was told this morning that the problem has been elevated to Audi USA as a technical assistant case. We are now waiting on Audi to respond. I have to agree that on parts of the Q8 we are all beta testers.

How do you replace them? Unable to reconnect the wires.
