We pulled the string today
Firstly, I hope you are enjoying your brand new beautiful boy !
With regards to your questions regarding technical specifications of the Q8 55 TFSi. The model here in the U.K. and I think it's replicated in the car sold in the U.S. has 340 ps and 500 Newton metres of torque. Here in the U.K. and in Europe we are also offered the Q8 in 50 TDI mode. That car has 286 ps I think and 600 NM of torque. For many years I was a fan of biggish diesel engines with lots of torque but on my new Q8 I somewhat reluctantly deided to go with the 55 TFSi because the political opinion on diesels here in Europe is so antagonostic now, it wouldn't be a wise engine to choose anymore.
We travel to to Deutschland in our car many times a year and there are already German cities that refuse entry to all diesel engined cars...even the modern ones like the 50 TDI that comply to the latest Euro 6 standards and are very very clean.
Regards the slight hesitancy in pick up....I think Retom has a solution in a message on this post and I might look into that. It takes some getting use to I think ! I am an old bloke now who has had many many cars in the past including many BMW's Porsches,VW's etc....my missus of 50 years is very understanding ! . One car many years ago was a Saab 900 Carlsson turbo and the hesitancy in pick up of that car to wait until the turbo kicked in was truly memorable. On an overtake , you would floor the accelarator pedal, the arrow in the little turbo gauge in the dash would firmly remain in the green part for seconds.....and then after a delay of maybe 2 / 3 seconds....it would suddenly shoot into the yellow or red section...the turbo would kick in and you would shoot off as though you were in the bloody Millenium Falcon !
It was fun and you had to get used to it.Soooo....it aint as bad as that in the Q8 !
Regards the hybrid system in the Q8. It has a small 48 volt battery. It really doesn't do much and I suspect it is Audi cheating a little in trying to say it is somehow a " hybrid " to nurse the emmisions figures of all it's car sales. My car has now just ticked over 4,500 miles and the little green A in a circle that lets you know that the 48v battery is in use has come on for seconds....nothing more. You don't feel it and the combustion engine still runs. All a little bit pointless in my humble opnion. .
Anyhows....nice to hear from you.
Frank
