antenna amplifier question
thanx
Some older Audi models circ 1996-99 had the OEM amp in the base of the bee-sting aerial or as a seperate box buried in the trunk. But as these tended to fail quite regularly, Audi changed the design to make it easier to swap out.

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=211</a

But it depends on the model of Audi. On a 2000 A4 The Antenna Amplifier is located on the rear driver's side roof pillar, behind the panel.
So you need to first check to see if there is a feed on the power ISO connector that would have been getting 12v from the Audi HU, but is not getting anything from the new HU. Check the diagram on the top of the Audi HU. Find the power connector and then the connection showing a little switch usually th pin next to the perm live shown as UB+. If this is wired on the Audi loom then chances are it is powering an external antenna amp. So next check this pin corresponds to the power antenna output on the new HU. Chances are it won't be. Using a very small watchmakers screwdriver you can release the pin and slip it into the right location for your new HU. If there doesn't appear to be any wiring connected to the switch then the amp must be inside the HU so you'll need to install the aftermarket amp. The antenna amp on my A4 is external, but evn connecting it up to the right power antenna feed on my Alpine still gave crappy FM, so I installed this amp and the problem was solved.
