cannot log in to Android Auto wireless

New Audi 2021 Q3. Google Pixel 5 and Android Auto both up to date. I connect via USB OK and all works. If I break wired connection, I lose AA. Plug in the cable and it comes back. Phone connects OK to car when I get in but cannot connect AA wireless, only wired. Like to leave the phone in the charging port and be able to have it charge and connect wirelessly.
