I-pod interface problem___HELP!
I have a 2008 A4 Cab that i love!
But, i'm quickly falling out of love with Audi NA
and their "Customer Advocate" Services.
My hubby bought me an ipod integrations kit from Audi for my birthday (car was not ordered with one)
But, it does not charge while in the car, as they said it would.
While the Customer advocates fumble around, I found out from Mac, that the new i-touch and the new nano have a 1.13 software upgrade that DOES NOT interface with this system Audi is selling.
Trying to get a resolution from Audi, but they are stalling.
Very disappointing.
Anybody know a number of someone at Audi NA that can actually make decisions?
Funny, dice electronics in Ca knew all about this change and already has an upgrade on the market.
Hard to believe Audi is so in the dark!
Thanks,
D.
iPod interface can be quite tricky because Apple does not care about the companies that interface with it's products. It's all about Steve Jobs getting control and money. (Much like Bernie and F1)
On the other side of thing Most German cars are not the best at multimedia interfaces. Their Nav system lag the Japanese car mfrs in easy of use and new options.
Here is a site that is quite knowledgeable on the Audi Audio issues

Old Navplus forum

In answer to your "frank " opinion-
Audi should not misrepresent products.
We inquired from the dealer, about the product and what it would do.
He verified to us from Audi NA this unit's functions.
We bought and had it installed based on this.
Now they plead ignorant.
(A) If they knew of the interface change, they should have had it noted on their PET, and not sold it to us upon finding out we had the new nano.
(B) If they did not know of the upgrade, then they should graciously admit it, and either resolve it so it works, or remove it and give us our money back so we can get a unit that does.
BTW, Mac was very forthright about the info.
Also, Dice Electronics told us they got a communique from Mac of the change to come so they could update their system.
I would get the Dice adapters - there is a guy from there on this forum (scroll down) and you can email him to see what your options are as they are working on some newer interfaces.

BTW, aftermarket companies can develop products faster with quicker turn around times with little development cost. That's why they can react faster.
What Reggie posted is 100% correct, Apple doesn't work well with other companies to help integrate their products.
Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
Apparently your huspand was told it would work with your I-Pod...
This issue is with your dealer and if the dealer told you husband it would work and it doesn't then simply return the unit.
If the dealer argues, then, hopefully you paid via credit card. American Express is very good at this. Dispute the charge and provide the documentation as to why you are disputing it.
The buy a proper aftermarket device once the dispute is resolved.
