Default Stereo Problem

Hi All
I have just bought a 1998 A6 tdi saloon which i am very happy with. But when i turn the stereo on, if i try to adjust the volume it either goes really high or goes silent. Does any have any ideas or advice?
All help will be very appreciated.
Many Thanks

Not sure what radio you have: Look here to tell us which model it is: http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/radios.html

You may be able to try spraying electrical contact cleaner into the volume ****. Probably have to remove the radio - you will need a set of special keys for that and you will need to know the special code to unlock the radio when power is removed.

You might try swapping with someone else but I suspect you have something going bad elsewhere with your electronics.

Here's how to swap the radio out

Hi Reggie
Again, many thanks. I contacted a local audio place and they said that it is a common fault with audi's. Its the concert stereo with the on off button in the middle. You press it and it comes out to turn the power on.
