Installed at ABT electronics (chicagoland area)
Problem: I have problems with idle even ehen music is not turned up and overvoltage when turned up. car Stalls sometimes with dips at starup (CE light and Generator light come on along with drop to 200rpm momentarily then raise back up to normal with not warning lights) Still have factory battery which is due up in OCT and stock 120amp bosch alternator. Was told by ABT I put out 3000Watts. I am thinking of getting an Optima battery very soon along with by stock 120amp bosch alternator upgraded to 150 amp at a place nearby call Auto import electronics.--I believe they upgrade the brushes and the wiring on the alternator. Will this help with my problems or are there any other solutions. Will also buy new voltage regulator.

The max ratings by Xtant are 600 and 400, but there is NO WAY IN HELL those amps are underrated by 3x their potential.
So first off, replace the stock battery. Put in an Optima starter battery (like a red top). DO NOT use a deep cycle to replace your main battery.
Start with this. A 120amp alt should be PLENTY for the 1000-1400 watts your pushing, unless, the alt isn't working at maximum potential.
The voltage regulator may be IN the alternator, or there may an outboard one, not sure how it is on the Audi, that Auto electronics place should be able to tell you.
I personally think a fresh battery will help a lot, since a stock battery from 97 as at the end of it's useful life pretty much.
From there, have them test your alternator. If it's not a huge cost to have it rebuilt up to 150a from 120a, go for it.
