wiring sub help...
I am using a 2-chnl. Alpine amp and want to wire a single 12" dual 4ohm sub. Is this possible with my amp, or can you only use a mono amp in this configuration? I know I can bridge (2) dual 4ohm subs together on this amp, just not sure how to wire the single speaker??

Depends on the amp.
If the amp is 2 ohm stable when bridged (look at the specs in the manual) if it is, then wire up the 2 voice coils in parallel, giving you a 2 ohm load in total. To do this wire the 2 +ve's together and the 2 -ve's together then connect to bridged amp (+ve pair to ch1 +ve, -ve pair to ch2 -ve).
However, most Alpine amps aren't stable running 2 ohm loads when bridged, so your best bet is to drive the sub in 2 channel mode (separate channel driving each voice coil) in 4 ohm mode.

seems that you are correct the Alpine amp is only stable at 4ohms bridged. So that leaves me with two channels per side on the sub...at 4ohms. I thought I had it like that last night, but maybe I forgot something on one of the switches.
There is a switch for Mono, so maybe I'll see if that fixes it...I may have missed that?

Re: Wire the sub to 8 ohms, and run the amp bridged mono. You don't want to run it stereo.
The specs of the amp do not give 8ohm bridged as an option these are the options in the list: \
Per channel into 4 or 2 ohms, or bridged to 4ohms.
Is it possible to do what you are saying?
The amp is Alpine V12 class MRV-1507...if you want to go to the alpine site to see directions.

You get approximately half the power of the 4 ohm rating at 8 ohms.
The reason not to run it in stereo is because you dont want to give the voicecoils different signals. If you get get a mono signal coming into the amp, then you give wire the sub with one voicecoil on each 4 ohm channel because you'd be getting the same signal on both sides.

So if its rated at 600w bridged at 4ohms...I'd be getting 300w at 8ohms is what your saying. Basically thats the same rating as if I wired two subs (one per channel) at 2ohms. But since the Alipine amp is not stable at that load...I have to go the route you just explained.
