Default Any way to tell if I have a coating?

I just got my black 2015 A8 yesterday. I canceled my auto wash membership and want to go all self-washing. I am planning on ordering a foam sprayer and some other items soon but it seems like my car has a previous coating on it. I have had it 2 days and 3 showers of rain here in north Florida and the water is beading and rolling off like crazy. Any way to tell if the previous owner had a coating installed? I just want to make sure I purchase all the right wash and future protectants and it seems the game has changed since I was really into it 20 years ago. I also have searched all over the forum and cant get any actual answers on recommended products, any ideas.

Ceramic coatings typically produce a small, tight bead. Yours look like a wax or sealant, which is fine. The traditional sealants are good for about 6 months, but maybe shorter in FL on black paint.

The car looks very nice and you should be pleased with that. I can tell you with certainty, washing and keeping the surface clean is 90% of the task at hand. Fine tune your washing/drying routine, find products you like. Buy good quality wash media and good MF drying towels. There are excellent sealants and waxes out there, even consumer-friendly coatings which could give you a couple years of protection. Even Turtle Wax has a new "ceramic" polish/coating in a one-step product and it's getting pretty good reviews.

Enjoy.

If you want a great shine with easy use
Try F11 Topcoat easy to use great shine and use on the entire car with.
Not cheap but well worth the price.

Two coats of F11

Wow. That is a beauty. I used to have all the tools and chemicals needed to do a full deep clean and polish, but have long since stopped. My paint looks great at all hours except mid-day. Then it has the typical black swirls. I want to have a full paint polish on it and was looking at doing a full sealant also so I will look into it.

The F11 will help hide the mid day swirls if they are slight
Find someone in your area that uses it to give it a try
Its not cheap but well worth the money
If you live in Vero Beach Florida I would hook you up I probably give more away then I use.
We took my buddy’s 442 to sell at Mecum and refused their 303
The shine was blinding!!!!
Or contact F11 Topcoat they might send you a sample
We used it on a fully detailed car and it got rid of the as I call them the Spyder webs.

I am about 3 hours north of you so may not make it by. Hahaha. Maybe on my next run to Miami. I see I have a few places I need paint correction so will probably bring to a shop near me to have it polished out.
