HELP! Scratch on Windshield!!!!
I got ONE scratch on my windshield this morning. Any ideas how i can get rid of it? It's about 6 inches long right in the middle of the windshield and it does bother me alot. Please HELP!!!!

Are we talking insurance and a big rock? Antenna in the windshield? $300-$600 ?? Pics?
Post a pic if you can. I know small scratchs can be polished out, finding a glass shop to do it may be another matter.
My windshield is dying the "death of a thousand cuts"....little divits from rocks and gravel. Someday I'll need to get hit by a big enough rock to break or crack it. I think mine is $500 to replace. My 1985 pickup truck was $200 after I told them No Insurance...which pisses me off to no end but that is another story.

It's a light scratch across the windshield (front). Are there polishes that can remove a light scratch? What brand and where to get it. Thanks!

Can you feel the scratch with a fingernail? If not, it can be polished
out. Eastwood (www.eastwood.com) has a glass polish kit that is supposed to be able to fix a minor scratch, but they mention the fingernail caveat. If you can feel it, I believe your windshield is toast.
You could always ask at your local auto glass shops and see if anyone there has any suggestions or fixes. Most of them are in the business of replacing windshields, so you can probably guess what the usual response is going to be.....

Take it too a good glass shop. Yes, there are polishes that will grind the scratch out. They aren't
at auto stores. A good glass guy will be able to tell if the scratch is too deep to polish out.
He will probably need to us an abrasive polish to cut down the scratch and then use one or two finish polishes to make the surface smooth. It may be cheaper to get a new windshield, just depends on the scratch. A friend had the passenger side windshield wiper fly off on the freeway and had to keep using the other wiper for about 10 minutes. Those scratches were not repairable.
Ever put a Danish oil finish on some wood? Same type of thing.
