Default Sam's Club Microfiber - 20@ $9.96 - been discussed?

I STFA, but didn't see this discussed. Sam's has cheap microfiber towels, 20 of them about 14x14, a mix of blue and white, for less than $10.

I have used these for a couple months and they are very good quality for an extremely good price. Supplies are dwindling at my local stores, though so get them if you can!

BTW, this is my first post in this forum, having just bought an '00 A6 2.7T a couple weeks ago. I've had many Audis in the past, also, I have done contract work for Zymol, have used many (most?) detailing-related products on the market and pretty much know what I'm talking about when it comes to making cars shine!

So hopefully I can be a contributor here... this is a good deal to start out with and I apologize if I missed a thread already discussing it!

Default I got ones from Costco that are that cheap... I dont use them on paint thought...

I use them on my HRE's and door jams and stuff like that. Place I dont want to scratch up but are not as noticable etc.. I still dont trust them enough. If they do well enough in their current use they might move up to teh A game. We shall see.

Default not worth the risk ...

even if they work well, i'd keep them second-tier ... just not worth scratching up the paint with products of unknown quality.

Default Re: not worth the risk ...

What risk? We're not talking rocket science here... it's a blended fabric, no more potential to scratch than terry cloth... unless you get something into the microfiber fabric, at which point you've got trash!

I've always been terry or cheese cloth only, but I've used these microfiber towels for a couple months and they are nothing buy excellent. Better quality than the towels I got from Zymol or Meguiars...

Default The COSTCO ones are getting OK ratings, WalMart ones probably bad.

I don't think anyone has discussed Sam's but since WalMart owns them and the microfiber I saw at WalMart wasn't worth buying....well I'm happy you are happy.

Do you have any "Premium" microfiber to compare the Sam's towels too?

https://forums.audiworld.com/detail/msgs/24168.phtml</a

Default not quite ...

you're oversimplifying. first, realize that the thread used to sew the edges on many cheaper microfiber towels is itself abrasive and may lead to scratches. second, cheaper microfiber towels are cut in such a way that the edges of the microfiber heat up and become hard, also leading to scratches.

with over $100k in cars to care for, i don't see any reason to pennypinch on my towels, especially when good microfiber lasts for years.

Default I understand that, but...

If one maintains a myopic view, sometimes things are missed.

Example: I've been using Zymol Destiny for my dark cars over the past 3 years. I thought and espoused that it was the "best." Over the past few weeks, I've looked at some other waxes and have found that Meguiar's paste #16 gives a deeper shine, smoother finish and better results after washing... for a small fraction of the price.

If one is driven strictly by price, then some good things can be missed.

Default Cost sometimes has nothing to do with value, see my post below...

and I'd love to see proof of the edging of a microfiber towel being hard/abrasive enough to scratch paint!

Default Re: The COSTCO ones are getting OK ratings, WalMart ones probably bad.

These are 14"x14", 70% polyester, 30% polyamide, made in China, Microtex by Calderon Textiles. Bound on 4 sides. Towel colors are blue and white, with the opposite color binding.

This is the third type of microfiber towel that I have used. It appears to be _very_ similar to the towels that Zymol sells directly, more plush than the towels that Meguiars sells.

I'm happy with them, and I've bought enought to last quite a while. No personal investment in the towels other than that, so if you find them and like them, good! If not, enjoy what you're using...
