Hello and one question
Hi all,
I'm still pretty new to the Chicago Audi scene and wanted to say hello to everybody after reading this forum for quite a while now but never really introducing myself. After 4 car less years in downtown Chicago I got myself a B6 Avant and really like being back in my own Audi.
The only mod so far is the RNS-E, the DVD Navigation Plus, which I really like. I'm not really into performance mods which leaves some money for upgrades most of you would probably not consider. I was following the recommendations about Chicagoland Audi dealers and was wondering if anybody could recommend a dealer for my next upgrade. I'm planning to get my instrument cluster swapped to get the color driver information system. After getting the RNS-E, this would be a nice addition to complete this upgrade.
Looking forward to seeing you guys sometimes somewhere,
Dirk

I did some research...
...and it looks like being possible although quite expensive. From what I read so far getting a used cluster is out of discussion because in most cases the milage is wrong (and can't be reset if greater than 60) and the required login code SKC is not available. But a new cluster seems to be plug and play and only needs proper coding. One reason why I'm looking for a dealer is the fact that someone will need to get the SKC online from Audi to train the Immobilizer.

On the A8, it was plug and play

Call Tim @ Continental on Monday.
He usually rolls in around 9 so I would try giving him a call at 9:30 or after. I don't see why we wouldn't do it, but that isn't up to me. Just keep in mind when pricing out the cluster that they are typically reman units. So, you need to either pay the core charge, or turn in your old unit. but, since it's a different part number, you may or may not be able to turn it in. We would have to check with parts on that. Hope this helps.

Will do...
Thanks, Russ.
I know that I'll have to pay a premium because it's not a direct replacement and I don't expect to be able to turn in my current cluster for the same reason. I'll call Tim and check with him the options and charges.
Thanks again...

Re: Sounds good.
Sure. Let me know when you will be there (unless you are always there). Otherwise I may miss you when/if I show up to get the cluster installed. I can also bring a spare adapter kit (harness, GPS antenna and antenna adapter) if you want to take a look.
