problem?

i just got 2003 A4 3.0 with 6speed manual but some noisy sound like 'eeeeeeeng'come out when the car goes backward.
does my car have a problem?
it's not an used car so i'm kinda of worry.
help me out guys~

prolly not...

many manual cars make an interesting sound when going in reverse (it should only be apparent when going faster than about 2-4 mph, then it gets louder), i never knew what exactly caused it but i know it is normal. If its more of a metal on metal sound or something that truly sounds WRONG, bring it in just as a precautionary measure.

I thought it made that because reverse is a striaght cut gear. could someone confrim this? but it definately normal, do not worry

I believe it has something to do how the manual trans connects to the drivetrain in reverse.

It is caused by the gears running on the "backside" of the teeth.

The backs of the gear teeth are not as smooth as the fronts.
