Markup in the subject line?

Johannes:

Would it be possible to allow a limited amount of HTML markup in the subject line? /, /, and <STRIKE>/<DEL> would be handy.

The one I'm most often wanted to use is /, since emphasis/italics are useful for conveying conversational meaning of certain subjects.

This is the only bad side-effect I can think of.

That at first glance, it looks like this post was new to a tracked thread. (Of course, there's no blue/purple background, which should make it clear to all but the most unobservant.)
