Question for the mod's
The last few weeks, a good majority of the posts are "STFA" with nothing else.
Can someone post a sticky on top of the forum with some tips on posting technical questions?
There are a lot of new members who are asking questions. They may not know the wealth of information available via search. Rather than a weeks worth of STFA posts, let's help them in a positive way.
Greeting a new member with that may serve it's purpose but I suspect there's a better way to handle it.
A post with some useful tips might take care of a lot of questions. And save a lot of trouble.
Maybe label it with "Forum rules" or "Posting tips".
Let's move this forum in a positive direction and help our new members out.
Yes I know there are help topics, but I suspect a lot of new members are here to find out information about their car. With an older models such as a B3 or a B4, sometimes you get pretty desperate. I don't know if they're here to become forum junkies, but have their head under the hood and need some help and want to get back out to the garage.
Thanks.
If it's so simple to STFA, help the user out by searching yourself, and give some resources. But also make sure you link back to the search page.
Teach the poster how to fish.
I answer posts where I can, but I don;t like seeing dozens of STFA posts day after day. I don't like them. But the volume is such that I'd spend my entire online time doing forum searches for others if I tried to solve the problem all on my own.
