Default Suggestion...

Ok... here's a simple cry for help, please upgrade these discussion forums to something more capable... like UBB, DCScripts Forum, UltraBoard, or WWWThreads!!!

They have many more features that would make this community much more enjoyable... and a commercial forum software is not that expensive, roughly $50-$200.

Just a suggestion!

Default What features do you want?

The forum software that's running right now was written by myself to replace WWWBoard since it was causing many problems for us.

I'm also in the process of adding new features to the forum software and we have a good number of features already implemented. We'll most likely be announcing it soon for people to being testing with.

I'm also adding features that people suggest. Just give me a list and I'll see what I can do.

Default Re: What features do you want?

Well, not to be picky or outrageous in demands... but here are a few features the forums I mentioned have that I think would be great here:

Registration for automatic fill-in of name, e-mail, etc...

Links from registered user's posts to profiles storing info like date registered, # of posts, titles like "member", "expert", "enthusiast", etc... also other user-entered fields.

E-mail notification of both all posts in a specific forum, and just replies to your post. (For registered users)

A "new messages" since last login for registered users, perhaps highlighting the number of new messages when you login, and maybe providing a page with a list.

Post icons would add a personality to messages and threads...

Private messages would be nice, so users wouldn't have to send e-mails off of the board.

Spell checking for those of us who can't "spel".

Post previewing... so one can "preview" before posting.

Edit/delete messages after we post them.

File attachments to messages; so we wouldn't have to upload them to the picture poster then link.

Well, I think I'm done now

Default Another Suggestion...

The Search.. Even if showed results like the forum is listed, it would still be easier to navigate. The current search is kind of a pain, and seeing most people reply to your post with "Search the archive", easier navigation would be usefull.

Postings happen quite quickly, and I would like to check the responses to my own postings, so maybe a search by Name.

I agree with you in making your own. I have tried setting up similar things and some can be quite a pain to get working correctly.

Default Not all have been implemented yet, but many of those have

Registration is done.
Working on the links to a poster profile.
Email notification is on the list.
Working on new messages since last visit.
I'll add post icons to the list to check out.
I'll add private messages to the list to check out.
Post preview is done.
Spell checking is on the list (difficult to do correctly).
Working on Edit/Delete messages.
I'll add file attachments to the list to check out.

The things that I listed as done will be rolled out immediately. The things being worked on will be rolled out soon if not a little afterwards.

How would you feel about helping testing the software? Or anyone for that matter?

Default Re: I'd be glad to help with beta testing...

As a reader since Aug-97, I've seen JET's A4 Organization/A4.Org/AudiWorld come a long way, especially with additions to the team such as yourself.

I can't wait for the scheduled updates, with the registration feature being the most anticipated enhancement. If you are looking for people who visit almost daily, I'd be happy to volunteer for testing & feedback.

Just let me know...

Johannes,

Glad to hear that the features are on the way...

As for testing the new forum, I do visit frequently, and would like to give some feedback, but I really can't spare the time right now. I'm the director of two forums now, and soon to be directing a rather large forum... so that keeps me busy.

Regards,

Muhammad
