Default What's going on here?

There's been a lot of deleted posts on the urS forum lately. On the surface, it looks like 034 or AW is doing this to "protect" 034 from some negative discussion. However, I really don't think these posts do anything to damage 034. Regardless, the posts conform to the TOU.

034 can take the heat. The discussion has gotten hot at times, but there has been some good discussion and informational posting on both sides. Seems a shame to loose the content.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/206431.phtml

Default I don't know how much this has already been discussed...

But it seems like a misfeature to allow a user to delete other users' posts. Perhaps the deletion algorithm should be modified to leave "child" posts and just delete the body of the parent post.

Default I agree. A moderator should still have an easy way to kill and entire thread, but...

..for a lowly member, they should only be able to kill their own posts, not wipe out the thread.

Default They don't...

The poster's post goes away, but if you have the direct link to YOUR post, it's still there. You have to make the effort to remember or copy the link, but that effort is minimal.

Default Yes, I understand that. But that's really just a visible implementation detail.

The fact is if the link goes away from the forum page it is essentially gone.

you can still find a way in by checking for the "child" posts in your history

Default Replies to a post go away, makes sense to me...

what good are replies, if the original post is gone?

Default I don't think the value of replies strictly depends on the original post.

The conversations are not always so linear.
