Default Why is AW in this format?

Seems to me that AW is far too large for a list format, rather than moving to a vBulletin style format.

Default It's better for small volume forums...

Which AW is clearly not. I'm a moderator over at www.MR2oc.com which has in the neighborhood of 30k members and roughly 3 million existing posts. I cannot even begin to imagine trying to moderate and manage that kind of volume with a list format.

Not to mention, threads here, that are being responded to still get pushed down, rather than active discussions staying at the top and in the forefront. Then you have threads that take up a half a page, when it would be easier to simply have the thread headers/subjects in the subforum to quickly parse through them.

Don't get me wrong, I like the people here and the information that is available, but coming here can sometimes be a chore because of the layout.

Default Actually I find it to be the exact opposite....

vBulletin is better for less volume.

With this much volume you need a forum that allows threads to "die".

Users can track threads if they choose, but one reply doesn't bump something up to the top. There is so much volume here it'd be chaos.

Default That's were your moderators should step in.

Over on the site I moderate on, we have a 100 post limit. At that point the thread is locked. A new one can be started, with a link to the previous, but the original one will die off. This is good for two reasons, one, it allows threads to die off like you said, since often times people are less inclined to start a new thread to continue a topic that's been discussed for 100 posts. Two, keeping threads at or below 100 posts streamlines the site and keeps it running quickly.

Default Meh... if it ain't broken, don't fix it.... AudiWorld has been great for years with this format

moderators are generally hands off here unless something bad happens. Why make them police the site 24/7 to limit thread sizes.

Default Because it is homegrown, and we are very proud of it.

you'll get used to it. Don't forget to track your threads, which brings threads that you have activity in to the top when someone replies, etc.

Default I wasn't saying it was broken...

Just that it could be vamped up some. Like I said, it can sometimes be a chore to wade through pages of lengthy threads just to get a sense of what's new today or the past few days...especially since it lacks the ability to visually indicate when a thread has new activity, since the last visit, other than simply having a new post.

Default Homegrown?

As in developed in house? If that's the case, then I can understand some sentimental attachment to it.

The tracking part brings about another question... why is that not automatically done upon posting within a thread, with the option being to "untrack" should you get bored/tired/uninterested in the thread topic? Plus, some sort of UserCP option with the ability to go to that and see all active threads you are currently involved in rather than having to select each subforum and then see the threads I'm involved in.

Granted, I might be missing something here, so if I am, please point it out to me as I don't want to be critiquing when it's just something I'm doing wrong.
