Where is it located? Is that the part on top of the airbox?
IF that's it, I had to replace it on my wife's A4. Jorge did it for me, but it is real easy from what I can tell.
As for the code from your car....I didn't think the ignition control module had any kind specific coding that would prevent you from using another one.

It's the box that holds the chip. The VIN and engine no. are scanned (coded) into it. Since I have a used part (not rebuilt), the risk is that it will not accept my data because it already has data in memory. Today I will know.

ah, that means running the "VAG-Com" diagnostic/programming tool...
...the computer that you plug into your car that lets you run error codes and change the coding.
You wont need to do this if the ECU that you are buying is from a car that has the exact same transmission/drivetrain as your car.
