Default Tips on reducing fine / getting out of a ticket...

It finally happened this morning. Got stopped for speeding. Ticket was issued for 54 in a 45. Was clocked at 63 (not on ticket).

I see you can take online driving school to reduce by 18% and no points, insurance. Is this my best option?

Default Three things

Yes, the driving school is a good option, but you can only go to driving school a few times total, you might want to save that for a worse ticket than 54 in a 45.

Option 2, which I do, is simply go to court. You live in a big city, if you live in Orlando like your handle says, and as such the traffic court is probably pretty busy. If you contest it, you m,ust remember the name of the cop and what he/she looks like. When you get to court, look for your the cop in the courtroom. If they are not present when you are called, you are out of there. If the cop is there, you can usually plead no-contest, and if you have a good record, chances are good that the judge may make you pay only the ticket and court costs, but no points, which is the most important.

Option 3, hire one of those ticket lawyers. I did that a few years ago, paid $90 and it disappeared.

Default If you do the online driving school, let me know.

I have it set up so that the school is completely downloaded into a Word document, and therefore you dont have to do any reading. You just start each module, let the clock run out, then when they give you the questions, you just highlight a key word from the question and do a search for it in the Word document to find the answer. I got a 100% without ever reading a single bit of the online school.

Default Depending on your driving record/history . . . contest it and plea nolo contendere

You go in front of a hearing officer who will allow you to plea nolo contendere or innocent. To succeed in the innocent plea at this stage typically requires some obvious mistake or mitigating circumstance. Outside of that, the innocent plea will otherwise schedule you in front of a "real" judge who will hear both sides at a later date. As far as I know, the officer who issued the citation does not always have to be present at pretrial, only if you plea innocent and go in front of a judge does he have to be present, although these procedures may vary from county to county. Very true that your driving record/history strongly affects the hearing officers decision in a downward departure from the original citation. At the very least, you end up with a very generous extension of time to pay your citation. Also, I believe the judge can increase the penalties if you decide to go that far and lose. Plea no contest and you should be alright. Good luck!
