Default Vibrations... :(

I just got APR stage 1 for my 02 1.8TQM. When I was in Ithaca things seemed perfect. Now that I'm in (warmer) Orlando, I experience odd jerky-ness in the chipped mode, which disappears in stock mode. I'm not sure if Joel was experiencing the exact problem when he had stage 1 MTM. He said it was the exhaust. Believe Mike and Jorge concurred.

Hehe, according to Hoppen it's the clutch. I also contacted AMS and they confirmed Hoppens assesment. Something to do with the dual-mass flywheel(different than the B5s). You have to adjust your driving style to avoid this. Low speed and high load will trigger the "vibrations" you speak of. I guess that's why Hoppen came out with their clutch upgrade VERY shortly after they came out with the chip, I understand that AMS will do the same when they come out with their chip also. Anyway I don't have the problem anymore, it's just a matter of adjusting your driving style. Actually Ross test drove my car the night of the Xmas party and I noticed it a little, don't know if Ross noticed it though.
I mean both tuners said the same so who am I to argue. Actually there was an article on European Car Magazine not long ago on a Eurospec B6 tuned by Abt and they upgraded the clutch to "..damp drivetrain vibrations".

I had the exact same thing happen with my MTM stage1+, didn't notice the vibration until a few days after the chip was installed. Mine only occurs under lower RPM, high load in 5th gear, thought that maybe it was a motor mount or exhaust thing but now I hear clutch. I just adjusted my driving habits a bit but thats hard to do with the new found power.

Default If you get this vibration, it's your own fault. Downshift. :-)

You should be above 2500RPM all the time anytime you have your foot on the gas. Flooring the car in 5th gear at 1800rpm is about the worst you can do for the bearings.

I'm not flooring my car in 5th @ 1800. It isn't the same feeling as luging the engine but it is close. Jordan described it as if the boost was varying, i.e., bad tank of gas. I'm to finish this tank today so we will see.
Anyways, Mike, the probably persists at all rpms...

Default What kind of octane gas are you runing?

Did you get the 91 or the 93 chip?

Default not too smart to floor it at 1800 rpm in 5th.

I guess what I meant to say was that if Im in 5th , under 3 grand & get on it, it vibrates, never did it before.

Default Still, under 3k RPM in 5th is not a good idea...

to "get on it". That's what 4th (or 3rd depending on your speed) gear is for.
