Default Grrr....Help?

So, doing routine maint. on the '87 5kq today (oil & filter change, replace access belts). Get the alternator belt off no problem. Go to get the AC compressor belt off, and the tensioner (toothed nut + "rack" arm) strips completely. Of course, this is after I had gotten the belt partiall loose. Then, while I am contemplating that I notice that there is a lot of grime in the driver front wheel area. Yup, CV boot split.

Kicker is, I have a boot kit, but it is in Findlay. I have air tools and such, but they are all in Findlay. I have a floor jack and stand, but yup, in Findlay (all with the CQ 10vt project). But, I don't even have a place to plug a compressor in in my garage down here in Dublin, and I don't have my own compressor either (I connect to the shop air where the CQ is stored).

If I can get at least the boot kit I have down to C-bus/Dublin sometime in the near future (say, tomorrow or Thurs), does anyone have the time, or at least tools to change that boot out with? I was trying to make it to the auto-x this Sunday with the 5kq, but as of right now I'm not going anywhere with the 5kq.

Default I might have the tools and time tomorrow, Weds, night.

E-mail me your number at ebellATnetwalk.com. I'll give you a ring and we can try to work out the details. I'll be up at least until 1:30am tonight.

Sorry....Didn't check until just now.

The boot won't be in until Thursday unfortunately, but thank you for the offer!

Don't need air tools if someone has a breaker bar for the axle nut, but I will have to rent a 3-jaw puller I think, to push the axle out of the hub. Or, could always just stick a pipe or something over the end of my 1/2" drive (BTDT, broke the first one after a while of doing so, but its a Craftsman so returns are a breeze).

I've never had the "pleasure" of doing a CV boot, not looking forward to it.

Default Uhhg, you've got my sympathy. I hate ...

waiting on something I've ordered and paid for. I've finally decided that if I can afford it "Next Day Air" is how everything is coming to me. Just need to work on the "afford it" part.

Yeah, if I would have known what warehouse the parts were coming from, I would have done at least 2nd day! Normally, when things are shipped from the PA/NJ warehouse, it gets here anywhere from 20-26hrs later by UPS ground. There was one day I ordered something at 3pm, and it was here at 10am the next day...!

Sucky thing is, now I don't have a car to run on Sunday, so I'm probably just going to hang out at the pool or something, I dunno.

Default Want to codrive my Urry?

I was kinda planning on going to the Autox, but if there won't be any friendly older audis there, I'll probably pass as well. 2nd gear is a little bit of a pain to get into, but other than that, the car should be fine.

I may have a guy bringing me a door panel for my 90, he'd probably be driving his 3b'd 84 4kq.

I can probably get a cv boot for your car, my local parts place here in Dayton is pretty good about getting parts like that.

Email me, and we can discuss details if you like. I'll try to get ahold of my friend in Powell to see if he's interested in the Autox.
