20 Valve conversion?

Default 20 Valve conversion?

I have a 1988 80 Quattro.
It has the 2.3 liter 10 valve engine.
I was wondering if anyone here has done, or even knows if it is possible to, put the 20 valve cylinder head on my block. If so, what is involved. I figure it would require the 20 valve manifolds, and a new exhaust at least. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Default I'm pretty sure it's not possible.

I believe the water jackets and oil passages are routed differently to accomodate the extra 10 valves, much like the difference between the 8v and 16v VW motors. And I don't think it's possible to convert the intake/exhaust, isn't the 20v a crossflow? If so, that would be an unholy mess of custom piping to clear everything, and even then you'd probably end up melting something.

However you will need almost everything from the 20V engine compartment. Fueling system, ECU, intake, exhaust, etc.....

The 20V head will bolt right up to your I5 block, but you may find the oil passages dont match, requiring a bit of machine work, and pistons are different.

Best thing to do is find a donor car, and take the entire 20V motor intact along with the whole front clip!
