'87 5000Q Central Locking System Problem
The locking system has developed a strange problem. Both the driver and passenger door exterior locks operate normally for unlocking. But for locking, it's very difficult to turn the key in either door. It will turn, so it's not a lock cylinder or mechanism problem; it feels like the vacuum system is fighting back. Any clues?

I'm not sure....
I cycled the inside door lock a few times, and it got better. Now it seems to be working properly; the pump runs for a few seconds when I lock or unlock. I don't really understand how the system works; the service manual is not much help. I played with it a little today. I assume there's no leak, otherwise the pump would run excessively. Is there a diaphram in the pump that could stick, producing excessive back pressure and making it hard to unlock? If so, that would point to the pump as the likely candidate. It's working now, but I'm sure that's just temporary!

Both doors exhibited the same behavior...
It's unlikely both door switches went bad. It took excessive force to unlock as soon as I put the key in either door, so at that instant, the pump wouldn't even be running. We'll wait and see.

Interesting...
The rubber bellows are always attached, I've never been into the pump, but I'm wondering if they don't vent the system when it's off so the locks remain easy to move. I'm thinking that if it's vented that the vent will be part of the pump, I never saw any other parts when I was working on mine.
