A6 Help
Hi folks,<p>I'm new to this forum but it seems like the best place to ask for an opinion or two, so here goes.<p>I have a 1996 A6 Q, that will soon be comming off the 3yr 36k mile warrenty and it will be needing tires and break pads. I'll let the dealer handle the break pads, but the tires are another thing. This car has 7Jx15 alloy rims and came standard with 195-65R15H rated German Dunlops. I live in New England so I need to stay with an all season tire.. Opinions????<p>Secondly, is there any way to improve this machine's engine performace. What I mean is that this is a 3300+ lbs car and the 2.8 in stock form is a bit sluggish to say the least.<p>Thanks in advance.<p>Fred Connors Jr.<p>

<br>Hmm, shouldn't that be a 3year 50K mile warranty? And the free services are for the same period. So brake pad replacement should be free for you at this point.<br>As far as tyres are concerned, why not take full advantage of quattro and get a set of winter wheels and snow-capable tyres (eg Pirelli 210s).

Thanks Chris, you're correct it is a 3year 50K mile warranty, and the dealer will take care of the brakes this winter.<p>I am searching the net for an affordable set of winter wheels. I'll check out th Pirelli 210's for winter.<p>Thanks again.<br>Fred

There seem to be no chips for the 12 valve A6/A4 2.8 V6.<p>The 12V page suggests drilling holes in the air box or installing a 4inch dryer hose... I think not.<p>Basically the A6 is heavy and underpowered, period.<p>As for tires, The standard 195/65/15 Continentals went south at about 25K miles. The suspension will allow a 205/60/16, but I don't feel this machine deserves the investment in new wheels.<p>I've decided to go the All Season route again with four 196/65/15 BFGoodrich Comp TA VR4's. As a compromise they seem pretty good.<p>Fred
