Bar.
I mentioned the other day that I was looking for a V8 Quattro from the early 1990s. Would I be making a better decision in going with an S4? Not as much horsepower but quicker. Any other pros and cons that jump out at you.
The S4 (or 1991 200 quattro) are much better, if you're happy with a 5-cylinder turbo. The 91 200 quattro is an S4, with the previous chassis (the type 44, found on 5000, 100, and 200 from 84-91). The S4 (which replaces the 200 quattro in 1992) has more improvements, and costs quite a bit more.
In short, I think you should go for the S4. The V8 is great, but the S4 is better.
Engine off, key on, the reading should be 1.0 at sea level.
Idle 0.4 sounds ok.
It should show 1.3 or 1.4 bar.
Go here: http://www.sjmautotechnik.com
and start the diagnosis as to why you don't get max boost.
My guess: full throttle/idle switch should be replaced.
On the v8 or s4/6 front: v8 is automatic, except for around 50 '91 models and about 5 '90 models. S4/6 is 5-speed stick.
