Blizzaks - Boo!
Jim - I ran a set of blizzaks on my Jetta a few years ago....Didn't like the feel of the tires, and the wet traction was poor at best. I recommend Dunlops or Pirellis - IMO, Tire Rack does a good job , I prefer Discount, tho - same prices, plus free "change overs" in the spring and fall @ their retail outlets.

If you're at all like me, don't do it!!!
<br>Pure winter tires on a quattro is far too capable in comparison to everyone else out there (namely SUV's with M&S's). Get good all-season tires, that way you won't be going three times the speed of everyone else. Also, you can see the tread wearing off Blizzaks on dry pavement. Pure winter tires are horrible on dry pavement, they can get you in trouble very quickly. Nokian NRW's are a good all season tire that has solid performance in all conditions. I would run those in the winter on 15" rims and have summer tires the rest of the year.<p>Tirerack has been good to me, but don't count on getting the right thing the first time.<p>Todd W

Under most winter conditions, I would agree with you, however we will be in the Mtns of NC (5000+ ft and avg of 90-110" of snow per yr). We spent Jan of 98 there and had lots of snow and the A6 handled most of it just fine, however there were occasions when I would have wished for more traction, particularly when there was ice. The biggest problem with Nokians, is finding them. The nearest dealer is up in the DC area.<br>Cheers<br>Pat
