Bose Head Unit ....
Is it possible to replace the bose found in the 91 200 with the slightly later model found in the 93ish 100s ? They have the CD control on them correct ? Would this work with the older self amplified speakers ? And on the newer Bose units with cd control, is there an adapter for different cd changers ? ie. aftermarket vs. the original ...

OK, here goes: I have a 93 S4 with the Bose Head Unit. Nowhere on it does it give you ANY clue that it controls the CD changer, but it does. You HAVE TO use the Audi 10 disk changer which cannot be found anymore. You need to look at wrecked cars and the like to find them. Big PITA, took me over a year, ended up paying $400 for a used one. Well worth the money in the end. HOWEVER, I do not know if it is compatible with the 91 cars, so sorry about that. My main point is, perhaps yours already can control a CD changer, you just don't know it. You hsould ask a dealer or check the manual.

Thanks Jim, but unfortunately this unit absolutely doen't have changer control. Worst of all, I was looking at an RF Changer, but all of them need you to put the antenna lead through a small relay box which goes to the changer in the back ... this is where the next problem arises ... the 91 has the antenna in the window and is also amplified, it also has a much different plug, so that won't work either. I am starting to get frustrated ! It looks like I will have to take the bose unit out and rewire the entire system for an aftermarket radio ... unless Audi sells an adapter to change from the bose style antenna plugs to the standard one ..

What about looking for a totalled 200 that HAD the changer controller and changer? Try www.copartfinder.com to look for wrecked ones. (Assuming that it was in fact an option in 1991)
