Cat. Converter Question
Hi people!
My Cat is making some rattling noise any time i step on the gas pedal and the RPM go up or even when car is idling. There is something inside it that is moving and it's causing the noise.
What should i do? New Cat? It is bolted with three bolts on each side to the pipe. Has any one replaced one before and is there something that i should know -tips,secrets? CAN I USE AFTERMARKET CAT or i need one by Audi???
The car is Audi 100 - '89

Have you checked your heat shields yet? If not, do it. A loose heat shield can sound a lot like a crumbling cat, and is much cheaper to fix. If it happens at idle, I'd say that's what it is. Also check your exhaust hangers, they can get loose as they deteriorate and the pipes will rattle against the tunnel in the floorpan. As for getting a car(if that's the problem), check Zygmunt, Blau, TPC, etc...those guys will be much cheaper than getting one from Audi.
