Default Cats on their way out, Any experience with Non OEM High flow cats..

I've noticed that rotten egg smell coming from my exhaust after spirited driving. The OEM cats arein the $400 range, has anyone had any experience with after-market high flow cats
and if so who was your source...

Thanks for any help

Sam.

Default which Audi do you have? I replaced mine through this source, which I know others have used...(link)

I've had them on for about 5k miles, so I haven't had much experience with them, but they seem to flow about the same as the OEM cats. These are direct fits, so there's no welding needed to replace them. You just have to get new gaskets and 3 bolts for each end. Since I don't know which Audi you have, I don't know which gaskets you'll need. I know with the 90, some of us have gotten a spring-loaded gasket off of each cat. As for my '95 90, each cat has a solid ring gasket.

As for other cats, I think miktip bought slightly higher-flowing cats for his '93 90, but he had to weld on down pipes from the manifold and then after each cat to the pre-muffler fitting. I'm not sure if he really noticed any improvements, although, no one has ever asked him.

In addition, depending upon the year and mileage of your Audi, you may be able to get them covered under warranty or the recall (or lack thereof).

Good luck!<ul><li><a href="http://www.discountconverter.com/converters/audi/audi_direct_fit.cfm">http://www.discountconverter.com/converters/audi/audi_direct_fit.cfm</a</li></ul>

Default Check out this site and tell me what you think....

Thanks jeffrey,

Check out this site and let me know what you think, I understand there will be cutting and welding involved but maybe it'll cost less than the cats that run 317 ea. If they'll fit!!

Thanks Sam, 92 100cs<ul><li><a href="http://www.cnlPerformance.com/cats.html">http://www.cnlPerformance.com/cats.html</a</li></ul>

Default Just dealt with this....

My friend just did this on his 94 Audi 90 this weekend. He went to the Muffler Man shop in Grand Rapids and had each side done with a high flow cat. Cost was $170 on each side. Car runs noticably better at higher RPM's...

Do you have Muffler Man's in the Detroit metro area? They are all over the Holland-Grand Rapids area. If so you may want to get ahold of them...they actually did a decent job!

Default they look like universal ones like Mieneke sells. I'd be a bit apprehensive of buying these........

mainly because of the price. I find it hard to believe that they can sell them for such a low price AND be a high-flow cat. I called at least a dozen places that make their own cats for Audis and found the direct fit ones to be ~$300-1000 (Audi dealers being the highest) and higher-flowing cats around $200-500, but all were in need of welding, which I didn't want to do.

I doubt it will have clean emmissions, the cats remove a lot of sulphur and other contaminants from the exhaust gasses.

Most shop's will tell you its against the law.
