Default Code 2112

I HATE code 2112. I detest it. Every time I want to blow something up it is because of code 2112. ECU fault code 2112 has cost me months of downtime and at least a thousand dollars before. You would think that I had it fixed, but no. It keeps rearing it's ugly *** little head. If the timing belt stretches, code 2112. If you fart while working on the engine, code 2112. IF YOU TAKE THE DISTRIBUTOR OUT AND REINSTALL IT PER FACTORY SPECS, CODE 2112.

The code means that the distributor is out of position or that the crank trigger is dead. It seems to be the only thing keeping my car from running. It may require getting out my spare ECU to solve it, in fact code 2112 is the only reason I have a spare ECU.

Default Here's why (maybe)...

You will always get a 2111 ro 2112 error, if you get the fault codes while your engine is not running. So, clear your codes, go for a drive, then get your fault codes with your engine still running.

My apologies if you already know this, but at least it is good information for those who don't.

Default Slight problem there JP

IT DOESN"T RUN!!!!! So how am I suposed to go for a drive???????????

On the 5KTQ the codes are cleared whe you turn off the engine. You have to crank for 5 seconds in order to get codes at all and then leave the ignition on while you trigger the test sequence. Code 2112 is the only code showing up, i.e. I get 2112 - retrigger sequence - and get 0000.

You're not serious about this code being status quo on a non-running engine are you? That is, that no matter why the car doesn't run this code will come up??? I have tried 2 ECU's and I am currently chasing the wiring. I think the sensor is OK, but I will check again just to be sure. I really need to buy an O-scope!!!

that's why you get that code no matter what, including farting and whatnot. You have been checking your codes without your engine running. Anyway, either 2112 is exactly your problem, or it can be ignored and your problem is something that isn't returning a code. I think the latter. So, I would ignore it for now, and follow the usual checklist for a car that won't start. I bet you find something else, start the car, check the codes, and it will be gone.

Default This is beginning to be very NOT funny

The computer works, because the tach moves while cranking.

You can smell gas in the tailpipe after a few cranking sessions, so the CIS must be working to some extent.

There isn't a whisper of a spark, but I don't have someone else around to crank it while I check for sure.

6 weeks ago before I pulled it apart it started right away after sitting for 4 weeks.

Everything seems to point back to the code.

Default Nope, but I haven't messed with it

I never took it out, just unplugged the coilwire to the distributor cap. If I get a real multimeter I may be tell more.
