Default Hard starting

My car seems to take a long time starting. When cold it takes about 5 seconds of cranking to start. When sitting for a few minutes after running, it takes anywhere from 15 seconds to one minute (sometimes more) of cranking to finally start. I am afraid it's not going to start one of these times. Could this be a fuel pressure problem or is it electrical?

Yes, it can be fuel and/or ignition related, what year, engine/car type are we talking about?

It's a 1988 80 4 cylinder fuel injected.

Did you start with your basics - check/replace ignition system components, new fuel and air filter?

Yes, I checked the basics. I have noticed however that the cold start valve is not working. I would not think that it would cause hard starting after the car has been driven a while. What do you think?

Default Agreed, it should have no effect once engine is warmed up...

My thoughts are at this point is to have your fuel system pressures checked. You may have a weak fuel pump or pressure regulator.

Default Hard Starting additional info

When cold, it starts right up, but when warm and I shut off the motor and immediately try to start it, it won't start. It takes a lot of cranking for it to start again. Could it lose fuel pressure that fast? What do you think the chances are that it really is the fuel pressure regulator?

F/P or FPR are faulty.
A good suspect may be your fuel injectors. They may be leaking down when they are hot. A good check is to pull the plugs when hot (be careful), if wet then you'll know which injectors are leaking.
Are you sure you are getting spark when first trying to start hot?

Looking at the plugs when hot and when hard starting, I don't see any fuel on them. They are black and sooty, but no fuel. I will check and see that there is spark when hot. Could possibly berelated to the hall sensor fault I get?

It's looking more and more like an intermittent hall sensor circuit break.
