Hey Steve, nice cover story on the S4 - 4000 comparo...
And by the way, although you say that Audi didn't make an "S" car back then, I like to think of my 4000s as the original S car. with its 5 cylinder engine and 14 inch wheels, it was a lot of performance for an affordable 4 door.
Unfortunately, a panel truck cut me off on the freeway leading to a nasty accident and the end of the 4000s. but I will never forget that car.

I never owned a 4000 but, here is an Audi flashback, 1985: I actually put off picking up
my prom date, just so I could drive my best friend's mother's 4000 5+5 Coupe, which she had released to him only for prom night. Looking out for his pal's intrests, my friend immediately brought the car to me and threw me the keys. Having only owned lackluster American cars at the time, I lusted deeply for the German machinery (the lust second only to that which I felt for my toe-tapping, frown-wearing date an hour later). Anyway, I drove the crap out of that car for as long as I could. The first of many sins that night? Who can remember?
Bah, I have spoken enough already. Just check the picture at the top to see who is REALLY left standing when the dust clears.
(Still love ya Steve)
Always wanted to drive a 5+5. I like boxy cars.
I bought my CGT over an Alfa GTV6 back in the early 90s and can't bring myself to get rid of it. Just a great driving car. Enjoy it so much a blew the down payment on something newer and faster on go-fast upgrades.
I too am tired of being snubbed by the dot.com kids and their new cars, and those stuck up 5kt owners who think boost is everything. We like our old 4k chassis cars, especially when they're paid for!
