Intermittent speaker problem

I own a 1998 Audi 1.8 A3 model. Since I bought the car a year ago I have had a problem with the front right speaker. From time to time, there is no output from the right front speaker. When I turn up the volume, the sound comes back right again. And sometimes the sound comes back by itself. I've explained the problem to my dealer and he has changed the radio, but the problem still persists. I have asked him to change the speaker but he's reluctant to do because the problem doesn't appear when I take the car to him. It's really irritating to keep having to turn up the volume to get the sound back. I would really appreciate any suggestion that anyone might have. Thanks.

My A3 had no problems on stock speakers.I then changed the front door speakers to Infinity Beta 5 and Beta 1 components together with a used Alpine 2*50w amplifier and Alpine equalizer. All the cables where upgraded too. With them I had same kind of problems as you have. Left side channel went dead or it was somewhat more silent than the right one. This occured every now and then and was really hard to demonstrate.It turned out that the equalizer and amplifier where nearly dead and where not worth repairing. The had wisibly bad connections inside. I thought this was the cause of the problem.I went for a new Sherwood 2*50 amplifier and a PPI equaliser. I THINK I heard somewaht similar to happen a couple of times in the winter (very cold -34C) but the problem is gone now.I would guess that the problem is a bad connection somewhere. I suggest you/dealer check the connections inside the door. Replacing all the stock cabels is not expensive so this is a good option too.
