Hellow to all you Audi owners. I am glad to announce that I have recently purchased a 1987 Audi Coupe GT in mint condition and I am thrilled. Ofcourse I am going to need all the help and advice I can get from this forum. To start I need to purchase a maintenance and repair manual for my car. Does any one want to sell their old manuals or know where I can get one and which one to buy? Also since I do not have the previous owners maintenance history I would like to know what sort of things I should be addressing as preventive maintenance. The car has 170.000 km and aside from a little vibration when you stop at idle it is running fine.

If you are really going to do most repairing and troubleshooting yourself, then get a Bently Service Manual, this is the same used in Audi repair shops. If you want to fix the occasional minor repair, then get a Haynes Manual. You can sometimes find both manuals on ebay.com. If you are looking into getting a Bently, the price is steep ($125 brand new), so waiting for one to show up on ebay may be worth the wait, since your car is running well right now. However, such manuals for the Coupe GT may be hard to find. The Haynes is much smaller (350 pgs to the Bently's 2000+), but also costs 5x less.
My 85 5000 has the same "shakes" when idling in Drive, shifting into Park ususally remidies this for me. I think it may be old motor mounts, which would be expected on any car this age.
Sounds like you got yourself a great Audi, sometimes finding such a good car that is more than 13-14 years old will be very hard. Congratulations and welcome to the club.

Get a Haynes manual first. Most sections are right out of the Bently anyway. I ordered mine over the 1-800 # for about $20. Bently is about $100-$150. They may not have a Haynes for your exact model, but most 5 Cyl. Audi's are very similar. Look under the Model Guide on this web site to find info on a similar model.
